8 years...

Today officially marks 8 years with the department I'm in and with the NHS....8....fucking....years. Ideally I never wanted to get to this point or at least hit the 10 year mark with this kind of job. I still wanted to have a bit of variety and as I get older I'll realise that it'll become a lot more difficult to branch out because my department is useless for training and adding additional skillsets.

The problem is though is that it's a comfortable job with it's usual issues, although I don't feel as comfortable as I used to be. I think the general atmosphere is rather drab and the location isn't as useful as it once was now that I'm living further away from Oxford. There's always that underlying feeling that if I walk away from this type of job how worse would it get? So my mind is in the usual 2 places which annoys me as it usually means I do nothing to make a difference.

I have been partially looking, but everything puts me off. I'm not qualified enough for IT in specific areas which is a shame as I wish I was a better learner for programming and anything along those lines. I wish I was a natural all-rounder. I'm sure something will come along, at the same time though I'm also thinking into the future when it comes to kids. I just feel it will become a lot more difficult from that point onwards. But who knows, maybe the NHS will catch up in another 20 years at least...

Moving in

So, I gave it a bit of time rather than making constant commentary on the move since it didn't feel necessary. It's been just over a week since moving in and I'm thankful to say it's gone really well. Most of last week involved making Ikea furniture from hardest (bed) to easiest (chairs). We did one bit of furniture at least one per day, I didn't find it as tiresome as it sounds because there wasn't much else to do around the house and it needed to be done anyway.

A week later and pretty much most of the house has been done, at least for the main essentials it's very good. This is something I finally wanted and it's nice to know it delivers. Everything about it since making the offer price has gone well. I can actually settle for the evening without too much thought of things going on and I feel occupied.

I don't want to try and make comparisons but things felt so different when I was in the flat. It was the idea of going into a place where it wasn't going to be ours, plus Sofia already moved in a few months before so there was always that feeling where it was still partially hers at that time.

I think this week will be the quiet and peaceful week, the commute from work and back as been good so far but I still dread that will all come crashing down soon once kids are back to school. September and winter onwards is going to be really shit for sure.
